Hey all.  I mentioned on another post somewhere that I had otos that were amazingly not starving to death in a completely "otoized" tank, while many other folk were saying they have no sucess with oto survival.  I said I was also feeding that tank with flake and Wardly brand sinking shrimp pellets for the oto's tankmates, and suspected the otos may have taken a liking to another food source.

Well, guess what. I took a peek at the tank after I dropped in some shrimp pellets, and the otos were going crazy!  They were all over the shrimp pellets with happily rasping glee. They were even more excited about it than the cories the pellets were orginally meant for.

Now I do not know if this is something that is healthy for a primarily veggie oto. Alls I know is that the otos have been with me now for two weeks and have fat happy tummies and no deaths.  I also subliment with Wardly algae waffers, which they seem less enthusaistic about.

I hope this little tidbit of info helps out those people who have otos that have eaten themselves out of house and home.

Thanks for the tip.  I have had my otos for about a month now and they got rid of a ton of algae in the first 5 days and I have no odea what they are eating now.  I got some sinking wafers but they don't eat them or at least don't seem to east them.  They sit in the bottom of the tank all night with nothing eaten from them.  What is the exact name of the pellets you got?

Wardly brand sinking shrimp pellets. That's what they're called.  They changed their labling lately, but I know it's an orange bottle, but I can't remember if they put a cory cat on the lable, or if they still have the clown loach. I think the clown loach picture is on the tubifex worms now... ???
