A mini cycle??? I had petsmart test my water and here are the water parameters:

Ammonia: .25 ppm
Nitrate: 10 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Hardness: 150 ppm
Alkalinity: 120 ppm
pH: 7.8

Am I going through a mini cycle? Currently the only fish in my tank is 2 Convicts. Also do you think my Nitrates are too high for Convicts?

I looks like it. You might be overfeeding also. Alot of uneaten food will lead to Ammonia.

Well everything I feed gets eaten. And I tend to change the water twice a week since I see the poop and I dont like it!

I recently added another Convict because my friend had given it to me. But that was a couple of days ago!

Is this the tank that was never cycled for the goldfish? How did you cycle it before adding the convicts? What does your tap water test at? I would more imagine this tank is cycling.

Well it was starting to cycle with a betta(one that my neighbor gave me) and then I got the convict. And from what I read on test(my friends before he moved) my tank had cycled. But then I get these results and it says it has ammonia.

It probably Never fully Cycled. I would watch it and Cut back on the water changes. If you are always removing the Ammonia you Cycle will take a long time. This isnt to say to Stop them or Not do them when you have a lot of Bad levels. Just cut back.

Don't cut back on the water changes. It will not slow the cycle down. As long as there is ammonia or nitrite present, then there is not enough bacteria to do the job. Whether you have .1ppm ammonia or 1 ppm, the bacteria will still grow at the same rate til there is enough to keep up with the bioload. The key is this: What you see on your test kit is Excess. And if there is Excess, the bacteria will grow to remove that excess.

Also, the lower the levels, the better for the fish.
