Amazon is better than Petsmart

I decided to dose my tank with internal parasite meds again. Tetra Para guard seems to work well for me. Promblem is, its almost 10 bucks. And I have to buy two packs to dose 125g. Plus it recommends x2 treatments... thats almost $40. Guess what. Amazon has it for under $4. Plus I pay for prime so I get free shipping. I've gotten to the point where I always check online before buying anything. I did the dame with Seachem Purigen. Petsmart and Pet Supplies don't carry it, but Amazon does. Between the LFS and Amazon, I really have no reason to go back to the chains. Just thought I'd highlight the money that can be saved.

Just check the online prices of the merchandise at Petco & Petsmart - they are considerably cheaper than in the store. You have to consider the shipping costs, but I believe its free if you order over $49. The other thing I have to consider is tax - 9% from Amazon and the other two, where as from Drs. Foster & Smith, Aquarium Guys and Big Al's I don't.

Very true FD and Thyra.

I use Google for sourcing/pricing of goods, hardware. Sometimes Amazon has it cheapest. Sometimes is eBay, or sometimes Petsmart/co.

I've even found where your Amazon purchase links you through Petsmart/Co for some things.

The only thing I've found with Petsmart/co lately is their free shipping takes forever. For instance, the strip light, glass top and CFL bulbs I mail ordered from Petco on Firday 3/15/13 have all shipped, but not arrived yet. I did get the two ZooMed CFLs last Friday afternoon. The other items show arrival tomorrow 3/25/13.

eBay and Amazon have always been ridiculously fast for me.

Petco has been super fast for me, but it was coming out of California. I don't know where all their warehouses are. One place I dealt with that was very helpful was Aqueon - I use their filters but I had an impeller fail. They just ask me my address and sent me 3 or 4.

I never buy live fish online. When buying fishes, you have to observe each on for few minutes to how they behaves in the tank while in the store.
This is good indication, how well it would do in your tank when you get home.

Check to see they are active and healthy. Make sure the tank in the pet store itself is in good condition ... i.e no other dead or almost dead fishes.

That's great Fishdad, but Amazon has a base in WA so we pay sales tax. Of course, if they happen to ship free that makes up for it. Are you a premium member or something like my daughter is so you have no shipping fees or pay an annual fee for that privilege.? I guess all I saying is one has to shop around to be sure they are getting the best deal.

Thyra yeah, I pay something like $60/year to be a 'prime' member. Its worth every penny. Free two day shipping. Plus you get all sorts of free online movies and discounts on new releases. Thats important for us, a little off topic but we don't have cable (won't pay for garbage) we have our tv hooked up to the net with a roku box. So through amazon we purchase all of our movies for the kids and ourselves. The best part is no more scratched dvds. The movies are online, never get lost or damaged. Anyone with kids can attest to those qualities being worth their weight in gold. Plus no monthly cable bill.

Good call on that FD. I'm kind of saddled to cable because wireless/cellular service is sketchy where I live. Super hilly terrain. I can have what ever internet service I want, as long as it's cable :(. FWIW, my Cable TV, internet and home phone 'bundle' is.. gasp... ~$150/mo. I hate it. I could piece-meal with satellite TV and keep cable for internet / phone, but once you total that up, it's at or above what I'm paying now. :(

i pay 85 bucks a month for my internet and then another 130 a month for tv. also i can't stand digital media like mp3 and stuff like that. sound quality of an mp3 is dirty and i can hear it over my speakers in my truck. cd is alot cleaner sounding. i feel the same way about dvd or bluray vs streaming online. also i don't have fast enough internet to stream movies anyway.

It's staggering how much this stuff adds up to. ~$150/mo for our cable, internet, phone and another $90/mo for a pair of basic cell phones.

I'd love to dump the land-line, but cell service is bad at the house and with the kids, school, etc.. Ugh... I'm lucky there's anything left over for my aquaria addiction.

Check out AT&T uverse. We have the tv package right under "premium" (we don't get hbo and sports nonsense) and we have decent Internet and I pay $112 a month, an that's with an extra receiver and upgrade to HD

If my internet was fast enough id do that. but I have horrible latency. also my cell phone bill is only 65 a month for unlimited everything including unlimited international. my cell is the cheapest thing I pay on lol. even my truck is 150 a month with no tickets on my record. just glad I don't pay the loan anymore. been paid off for about 6 months now. but I figure about 50 to 75 dollars a week out of my check is entertainment money. the rest goes to bills food and gas. and gas takes a chunk when u average 11 to 14mpg lol

I agree FishDad, due to my lfs being poorly stocked, and the closest PetSmart is 40 min away, I shop almost entirely online. I like to read reviews which I cannot do in a physical store without staying there reading my phone for several minutes, I only read the negative reviews however, if there tend to be a lot of negative reviews for the same reason I look at alternatives.

If I need something urgently I'll go to the lfs, or a chain, but that's about it. There are several coupon sites I visit also which usually have a 5-15% off orders for amazon.com very worthwhile for purchases ...
