I have a twenty gallon and i recently changed my mind from putting a discus in it to doing an amazon themed tank.(I still wish to do discus but I geuss Ill have to wait until I get A bigger tank...probably next christmas...I can dream...)I want to do tetras probably and I want a pair of german blue rams for sure. But what are my other choices. I was thinking angels and hatchetfish. I want to do cardinal tetras also. Im going to be getting a Eheim ecco and if I can a biowheel atachment for it. About how many fish could I put in the tank and any suggestions for the tank im trying to create? I was thinking a pair of rams and a pair of angels about 7 cardinals and maybe a few hatchets and a few otos. Would this be good with compatibility and everything?
thanks

If you're going to be really harsh I'm not sure even rams are from the amazon. Sand base, verical wood 'roots', floating plants only? You could also go for apistos or some more unusual dwarf cichlids, and a farlowella 'twig' catfish. And no amazon tank will be complete without cories?

I was going t do the same thing, exept in a 75 glalon aqaurium, i think a 20 glalon is to small, because angels get 6 inches, 7 cardinal tetras equals about 1.5 X 7, hatchetfish depending on silver or marble (marble=1-1.5, silver=2-2.5) so they get pretty big, not to mention i have a pair of blue rams and i think it might be to small for all those fish plus you'r going to want cories and algae eatersright?

Well Im going to be pretty leniant...lets call it an south american aquarium. I think rams are from the venezeulian river basin. I like some of the other dwarf cichlids but im still leaning towards some of the fish I named below. About how many of each would I be able to get away with?
thanks

Has anybody had experiance with a Peocock Goby. I like them. Would they be alright with a pair(or one) german blue ram and the other fish I named. I was just wondering cause if I could find this fish Id probably get it.

ive got a pair of peacock gudgeons, theyre pretty slow and just sit around alot so id say no to with rams in only a 20gal, although ive done it in a 30gal where they have room to hide and distance themselves from the rams, as long as theres no one too hyper or nippy theyll be fine, they are great fish

1 pair rams, 6 cardinals, 6 hatchets, 2 bristlenose cats. You might want to blow out the hatchets and get panda cories instead, and I'd probably get apistos instead of rams but that's just me. I'd still add a farlowella for 'interest'. I think you're a bit small for angels.
Peacock gudgeon are nice but not amazonian(!), though you shouldn't have problems unless you really want to get the pH down (prob. not worth the bother). Remember that for most of these fish to work well you'll want to get your water very soft else the tetras and hatchets will be very fragile

How about one pair of rams,7 cardinals,4 hatchets(or should the be in a group of six?),1 bristlenose cat(or take him out any other large community cats?), 4 panda cories or Jullii cories(4 with bristlenose or 6 without). Hows this sound?
