Ammonia Spike HELP

I Add about 22 lbs of LR to my 20 gallon tank at about 12 pm and now it is 12 am. I just check the ammonia level and the kit showed me that ammonia is very high already is this normal? What should I do. According to my test kit the ammonia level is between 4 and 8? Should I do a water change. how big of a water change? HELP

But I added the rock today. And the ammonia is very high. the test kit shows about 8 which is the highest on the color charts. Should I do a water change now. Or do regular changes in the week? Should I do 1 change per week? I did not figure this part out.

i woud do a change so that the ammonia doesnt kill whats on the rock that cant stand ammonia that high.
