How many fish are safe to be in a 55 gallon saltwater tank? Also, I was wondering how much Live Rock I should have for a tank the same size?

You should have a minimum of about 50 lbs. of live rock for that size tank.

Stocking will definitely depend on the size of the fish. You won't be able to have many of the larger fish--probably nothing over 6" adult size. You could get maybe 5 or 6 smaller fish (3 to 4 inches adult size) for 55g.

I"m a newbie to salt water so this isn't really a suggestion as much as just telling you what I have in my 55. Others with more experience than I may disagree with the amount or type of fish I have in mine, but I have a 55 with a valentini puffer, spotted hawkfish, banded clown and a coral beauty. But I will say to be careful and make sure that if you get a more temper mental fish that you don't include the more peaceful living mates as it will stress them out.
