I just noticed that my bottle of Amquel Plus removes nitrates and nitrites, among other things. I usually use it as a dechlor but I didnt know that it removes nitrates.

Is this really true...or does it just bind/lock the nitrates into another form? And if so, where does this nitrate go?

according to the website..Amquel only removes a portion of the bad stuff...not all. It only removes around 13 ppm of nitrates per dose apparantly.

Found this a little farther down:

When AmQuel+ detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and other organic compounds, it breaks the links of molecules apart. The bacteria do not know the difference and eat the parts, just as they would the whole original compounds. AmQuel+ may affect the dyes in certain types of cotton fabrics. This happens for the same reason that Ammonia test kits using the Nessler reagents do not work with AmQuel or AmQuel+. These products reduce the coloring agents used in the Nessler reaction test kits, and apparently in a very small selection of cotton based fabrics.
