Hello everybody. I am trying to build a anabantid tank. Ok, so how does this sound:

A 25 Gallon tank, not sure what type of filter. Probably Power Filter. Planted.
2 female Pearl Gouramis
2 female Blue Gouramis
1 male Betta or another female Gourami

Is there something wrong? I would think it is not overstocked, but I have never kept larger fish before. Thanks for the replies.

it sounds good i would take the betta over the female gourami id also put a moonlight gourami in too i think those are the coolest type of gourami it doesnt sound overcrowded either even if you got a moonligt also you should get a pair of cory cats for the bottom to keep the tank clean but overall sounds good fishguy33 *thumbsupsmiley*

Actually, I tried putting a male betta with a gourami, and the results were diaster. The betta kept harassing the gourami and chasing it around the tank. Take the betta out altogether.

Thank you for your replies. It might become a 30 Gallon: I said to myself: "What the heck, it's only 5 more Gallons"
I also heard that if you don't breed the female Gouramis they evetually fill up with eggs and die. So I have decided to put in some males. How about:

Aquaclear 200 Power Filter. Planted.
1 male Pearl Gourami
3 female Pearl Gouramis
1 male Blue Gourami or 1 male Moonlight Goorami
2 female Blue Gouramis or 2 female Moonlight Gourami
2 cory catfish

I don't know about that female thing. Usually if they don't breed, the eggs get reabsorbed into the body. Some stressful complications might cause the eggs to necrose inside if the reabsorbion process is interrupted, and that could kill the female, but an unfertilized female shouldn't die from not breeding.
