My solo angelfish recently laid a batch of eggs on the upper filter intake tube. What was so interesting about this was the fact she's the only angelfish in the tank and appeared to be driven to the egg laying by the introduction of a discus.
I lost all my old discus before the move and was without for several months. But I found a wild green discus that looked identical to my old brown and tried again. Immediately upon release into the tank the discus began to follow the angel, showing typical signs of discus aggression... headbutting, flared fins, etc. This went on the whole first night.
The next day he seemed to calm down and was following the angel everywhere. I noticed both of them had become territorial to a middle spot in the tank, chasing away the bala sharks whenever they got near. Especially the angel.
A few days later I noticed her cleaning a spot on the filter intake and constantly guarding it. Later that night eggs appeared and the angel constantly cleaned them.
They were gone in 36 hours... pretty sure she gave up and ate the infertile eggs.
Still a pretty cool thing. Is this common with angels?
