how many angelfish could i have in a group of them in a 240 litres (uk) with some loaches and bristlenoses and some tetras?

What are the dimensions of the tank? Generally speaking though, you could start with 6 and wait and see what happens when they mature. Some might pair up and when they do they are going to make life miserable for the others.

the dimensions are 48 inches x 22 inches x 16 inches (height) and if a pair forms il will try and trade them or sell them

That's a good idea, but I've heard of pairs forming up and people not noticing them and then wake up one morning to take full of dead fish. So it will be important to keep an eye on the angels once they mature to try and keep this from happening. Also might not be a bad idea to have a QT tank handy large enough for a pair to house them until you can get rid of them if that is what you want to do with the pair.

Angelfish grow 6" so...
7 x 6 = 42" (you could have 7)
plus two platies @ 2" each:
46", Or maybe get rid of the platies and get another angel.

As adults, you would probably be able to get away with 3 or 4 so long a pair didn't form or you didn't end up with a really aggressive one. The inch per gallon doesn't apply to angels.
