I have finally decided to get some angelfish, but I don't know how many to get. I don't want to breed them, the tank is going to be planted and will have a small school of neon tetras (8) and possibly some hatchets and a couple swordtails.. How many angels would be okay in the long run??

Either one or a group of at least 3 (more spreads out the aggression better, 4-5 is probably good for that tank). If you get just 2 (and they aren't a pair), they will go after each other and the less dominant one will be harrassed to death. I'm having this problem now because my dominant angel died recently, leaving me with only two. A single angel is also fine alone if you don't want to fill the tank with them... plus there's no chance of breeding and the aggression resulting from it.

Shouldn't matter the "race" of the angel (Just to tie our thread in the lounge together ;)). You should be fine with 4. Might want to watch those neons though, angels have been known to snack on them. And Cardinal tetras are food for angels in the wild so....yeah you get the picture.
