Hi all. Thank you in advance for any advice.

I am planning to get a 55 gal tank. Would like to get the filter and heaters now. My question is, what is a good filter for a 55 gal. tank? I was thinking of running 2 whisper filters. So I can clean one at a time. Any suggestions or comments will be nice. Thank you.

I really like my penguin biowheel now that it's broken in. For a 55G you'd need the 350 which is rated for 350 gph turn over.

I love Aquaclears. Big square boxes, very easy to clean and maintain, can put just about any media in there or take it out. I'm running just 2 sponges in my Aquaclears and its doing fine. Also Aquaclear filters know how to move some water. I'm happy with them.

Heaters go with Visa-Therm Stealth.

I did more reserch last night and penguin biowheel and emperor 400 is highly recommended from this one site I reserched all my fish. Do you find the emperor 400 to be on the quiet side? I am leaning towards one of these now. Thank you for all your help.

What I want to put in this 55 gal. tank is a nice school of Harlequin Rasboras, three Pearl Gouramis (one male, two female), and some cory's.

We know that the 75 gal. tank is better, but hubby is only going for the 55 gal. LOL

I don't know what the differance between the Emperior and the penguin is but things I learned from my penguin:

1. Do not use the extention it slows down water flow and makes it more noisy
2. It does have a break in period. After that time it's pretty quiet (mine's like 3 feet from my bed and it doesn't bother me at least but now I do dream about fish a fair bit).

I just set up a few months ago, and I used 2 Emperor 280's. I wanted 2 filters for safety sake, in case one ever went down. The Penguin 350 or the Emperor 400 was the toss up if I went with 1

The difference between the Penguin and the Emperor is a "spray bar" in the Emperor. It pumps water directly over the wheel which helps them spin
