On my box of maracyn two it says to treat for 5 days (I am treating for dropsy) but there has been no change in her (molly) behavior. She is still alive tho which has been a better 5 day outcome than the rest. My question is, is it okay to continue the antibiotics until she is either better or dies? I did catch her not eating and treat before she started to bloat (no she is not pregnant) and she is not bloated but no pinecone effect. She does have a hard time swimming tho. Should I maybe try a different antibiotic or continue with the maracyn two or just stop?

For anyone who hasn't read any of my other threads, I had been having water problems. This is now under control. As of today and has been for a week is
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 20

Also she is being treated in my hospital tank, which also has the same readings.

Good job getting your water under control. I generally follow the directions on chemicals for treatment with positive results.

Typically if I have to medicate a fish or a tank, I'll add the carbon back after 2 large water changes, then add a half dose of melafix, so if the chemicals damaged the fish it will help them heal and overcome the side effect.

If she is having trouble swimming, keep an eye on her, when she does eat, feed her a quarter to half of a shelled pea.

I buy them frozen, thaw slightly, pull the shell off, and leave to sit at room temperature for about 30 min to fully thaw and warm up. She'll nibble at it, then gobble it if she's like my fish. It'll act like a laxative, and help if there's any obstruction, it's also good for her swim bladder.

Best of luck with her.
