Im looking for a new place in town and i was trying to to figure out how i am going to move my 55 gallon tank. I could probably just bag the fish and drain the tank and move it empty but im assuming that i should try and save as much of my water as i can for the well being of my fish but i cant figure out how i am going to move 55 gallons if water. Im sure some of you have ran into this same problem, how did you do it? Anyone have any ideas?

You really don't need to save the water. Drain it down and try to keep the gravel damp. Bag the fish and try to set the tank up as quickly as you can when you get to the new place.

Most people recommend that you move the fish tank first or last. Last may be better, if you're moving a lot of furniture and worry about crashing into the tank.

The only thing I would add is to keep your filter media wet also during the move, so that you don't kill your beneficial bacteria in the process.

Be prepared to have a mini-cycle though, just with the stress of the move.

Moving large fish or large numbers of fish I used to use rubbermaid totes with water and a battery powered bait air pump from a bait shop. I would transport the filter media in the same totes at the bottom.

I usually save my water, and I like to use a 50 gallon trash can with a lid + bait bubbler. fish in can with water (not all 55 gal but maybe 30ish gets saved) generally I leave the gravel in the tank with enough water to keep it wet, and i toss my filter sponges into the can with the fish.

2 moves only one casualty, 5 tanks.
