hi all,
Im here to pick your brains again.

I have 4 of these bottom feeders.
The one in the picture is the largest of the 4.
The other 3 are quite a lot smaller and have blue dots behind there eyes.
After i bought these fellas,i have not seen them anywhere else.
They are all healthy and growing fast.
This fella is around 2-2.5 inches long.

Can anybody identify them.

No,
This is where iam really stuck.
The only give away really is that the smaller bottom feeders have a very bright blue dot behind each eye, where the one in the picture does not.
I presume its because they are diffrent sexes.
They all tend to spend time on the bottom, while when its dark they will skim the glass, but do not attach like a sucker loach.

Ok i have managed to get a further two pictures of the smaller bottom feeder.

You can just about make out the bluse spot behind the eye on the bottom picture.

Also the picture of the big guy at the begining of the thread, his head is almost shiny like a
dolphin, and has 2 holes on his nose, like nostrels.Hope this info helps.
Let me know if you require any more pictures.

Hi thanks for helping,
They are all pretty timid, and seem to come out at darkness.
There swimming pattern is similar to a sharks, with the tail movement.
They tend to swim and then bask on anything flat, including the leaves on the plants.
They dont surface for air,or have never seem them do this.
They feed on flakes swimming around the tank as the flakes fall.
I Have a sucker loach in the same tank, who seems to get on well with them.
Im really stuck as it seems i have 4 bottom feeders from the same family, but like i say 3 are identical in size and have the blue spots behind the eyes, while the larger one does not.
The under belly of all the fish are silver ,they have no scales underneath but a smooth area.
All the fish have barbs.
Im really intrested to find out if anybody knows.
i have been to the local fish shop, but they are stumped as well, they also had a look at the pictures.

This is another picture of the big fella, basking on a leaf.

i just saw what area of world ur from... let me pull my foot out of mouth...lol. And they can't tell you the name of the fish? the store you buy from i would think could tell ya, huh. I think we found a fish for the profiles once you find the name of the fish let us know so we can get it in our database.

I looks almost like my False SAE in body shape although it clearly doesn't have the stripes.Even the fins are the same.

Does it suck the glass or kind of rasp across stuff for algae?

Hi all,

In response to TLH's question, the larger of the 4 skims the glass and does not attach, the other 3 do the same but not as often. They tend to feed more of the bottom.

The Fish shop i bought them from do not remember the names, and have not had anymore since

Almost looks like a member of the sucker family, though in the pictures you posted, the one with the dots looks perched like a darter (though it fairly clearly isn't).

But suckers don't typically have barbs. Hmm...

I don't know what it is, but having grown up playing in cold mountain streams in East Tennessee, it looks very much like a fish that would fit right into fast-moving, cooler water...

Also, I'd like to see more profile shots of the smaller ones, but I think you may have 2 different species...

i asked my mom, she knows about river/lake fish better than me. shes a farmgirl. this is what she said:
i would say a carp. they would not attach themselves to anything
and they are scavengers, so they probably would clean the bottom. some can get very large and some dont get as big.

but when i showed her the front veiw it kind of threw her off a bit because of how thin he was, but he still has the whiskery thingys on a carp.

you may not be able to tell until later but here is this: Cold Freshwater - Carp types
