I have a thirty gallon tank with an UG filter with air pump and a penguin biowheel 330.I want to change to a powerhead instead of a air pump to work the UG filter.I have had the tank running for one year.Do you think I'm going to kick up stuff from the bottom when I change over.I vacuum my gravel once a week when I do my 20% water change.Do you guys see any problems I might have changing over. Thanks

since the powerhead moves more water than the airpump will,  it probably pull some crap out of the gravel,  but your penguin 330 will pick it up.

try a powerhead and you will never use airpumps again.

The fish are happy with the set up and I am to scared to change it.So I would like to keep my UGF too.Should I get a reverse flow powerhead or just a regular one. Thanks for your replys. It really helps.

Well, if your going to stick with the UGF "which I would highly recommend that you reconsider" I would go and buy a reverse flow powerhead, you want it to blow out your gravel, not suck it in so it is trapped under the plate where you can't get at it.

UGF's are a thing of the past, they are a big nitrate bed and sooner or later your going to have some problems with your water!

Just a thought to consider.

I will be moving the fish from the 30L to a 75L soon.I have the tank but not all the stuff to go in it.So you really think I should set it up with no UGF.I had planed to use 2 power filters and a UGF.Do you think one marineland emperor 400 and a emperor 280 would be good.I like the bio wheel.Do I have to add bubbles or will the biowheels cover that.Thats one of the reasons I thougt the UGF was good, it added oxygen also. Thanks for any help I need it!
