Around x-mas time im buying a new tank the messurments are as follows, 4Ft long, 14" deep and 20" high, i live in Australia and im not sure of the conversions into gallons( the shop owner says it holds about 1/2 tonne of water i was just wondering if anyone could give some suggestions on what type of fish i could fill it with and how many, any suggestion will be appreciated. thanks.

In assuming you would like some cichlids for this tank ;), I would suggest a nice planted tank... stocked primarily with angelfish, and work around the angels :) Of course, you'd have to like that fish / style of tank...
Personally, I'm partial to such a style of aquarium :D

Sounds like a 55gal to me.

You got a pretty good sized tank. First thing i'd figure out is what kind of cichlid i wanted. African, South American, or Central American. Africans would give more color and activity. A nice Mbuna setup would be cool. If you want color and activity, your best bet is a "Mixed African" or Mbuna tank....Lake Malawi Cichlids.

Angels are another good choice, and would fit nicely in a planted tank.

thanks for the reply's people, i got my new tank today so im on the search for fishies, but as i am new to everything marine i dont know what i should use gravel/sand i dont know how to maintain live plants so im kind of in a pickle, dont get me wrong i want 2 learn, also how many community fish could i fit in my tank?
i also wanna breed some fish just for the experience i will keep a couple but give the rest away i'd say.
i think it is a 55gal as Cichlid-man (i like ur pic) said but i dont know anything about fish and its pissing me off.

Well, you would probably want to do a fishless cycle, and you'll have a bit of time to learn about fish and decide what you want while it cycles. A general rule for fish stocking is 1 inch of fish (adult size) per gallon, although it is a bit lower with cichlids.
