500 is a bit pricey, but considering his stock is wild and or of breeding age. Many people will pay it. Or you can get fry that are 1 inch long for about 250-275 each and wait 3 years for them to be old enough to spawn.

No, but if you buy juvinile fish it can take 2-3 years for them to mature.

shh don't tell anyone, but if things go right I should have some of the L236 this summer.

Well they come from a tributary that is heavily protected by local tribes. To put it mildly, people go to collect there and don't come back. So their numbers in the hobby are next to nil.

That and they are a sweet looking fish. Probably one of the prettiest hypancistrus there is.

Edit: err that sounds bad..Leme explain. Punkrock works for the Aquarium in new Orleans, he/she is over the SA exhibit. If anyone has a chance of getting by the locals there it would be a research team not money hungry fish collectors.

Many look alike fish are sold as L236 but are not true L236. The fish in my Ava was sold as such. We won't talk about how much I paid. The fish is in fact L399, they are also very rare so I don't feel ripped off, but yeah I was a lil peeved when I IDed my fish.
