my axolotls skin is peeling off and no one knows why. I emailed some guy who has a whole friken website on them and he didn't know either.
The water is in perfect condition. The only answer i came up with is that the water flow is too strong. I tamed it a bit and it's not as bad, but i can't stop the filtration or i'll have even bigger problems.

Is there some kind of filtration that doesn't disturb the water too much, and doesn't create too much current?

i'll see if i can get a picture...

it's peeling off in little bits all over his body...kinda like a sunburn.

I can't sleep so I tried to figure this out for you, the best answer I could find (so far) is that your axolotl is metamorphasising into a mexican salamander, which is rare, because they need a specific hormone level to increase greatly to do so.

So, you might end up with a salamander (that will need to be able to go out of the water onto a rock or something once and a while). Its a longshot, but its possible... I'll keep looking :)

They can't metamorphos! They're captive bred and there is no way they can do that except by treating them with thyroxine, which is very stressful and i'd be a b@stard if i even thought of doing that!

I'm pretty sure it's the water flow...but how the hell can i prove that? I've tried turning the filter off, and it helps, but like i said i need filtration, so there's nothing i can do for now...i have to find some other filter that is better for them.

You never know really... a natural event triggers the production of the hormone, and it is possible that your little guy has an endocrine gland problem, and is producing the hormone. Never say never. Why do you need filtration tho? I read that filtration isn't necessary with adequate water changes.

It's not going to happen.

I'd prefer to have filtration coz i'm hardly ever home, i don't have time to change their water twice a week.

I guess you answered your own question :)
put a sponge or something on the output from the filter to break it up (or a spray bar if its possible)

I should be sleeping :( :)
