I've moaned before about how lots of people assume that Apistogramma = S America = Amazon = rain forest = high temperatures when really Apistos are common across S America which is a big place (reputedly) with lots of dofferent weather.
OK I have a 20 long which includes a whole bunch of 'spare' tetras, killies, and a pair of Apisto eunotus. The apistos have always been solid spawners, but only very small spawns. Now I looked in this tank yesterday and thought 'the little panaque inhere hasn't done much but hang on the filter recently' The water was cold! 16C. I'd left the heater unplugged, and I think it's been like that for a week because I've looking wondering when it will go on...
And... the eunotus have produced the biggest spawn I've ever seen. 100 + eggs rather than 20ish.
I wish I'd picked up some trifasciata a few weeks ago as they've been collected in water down to 6C, along with some pikes... and no the teras et al didn't die but the panaque looks happier now.
