Well, i went to the lfs an got a pair of these beauties. Does any body know the breeding behavior, eating habbits, just general info? And how rare of a fish is it? common? not common?

thats what the femal looks like. i googled the male, only thing missing is the spikes like the cockatoo dwarf cichlid, will the male grow these?

also a another question for oyu cichlid people, is it common for a non dominant male to not have the elaborate fins, then to gain them latter on? my guy looks like the rest of them except the fin on his back(sorry odnt know the sientific name) doesnt have the lonk spikes, it alsmost looks like an A agassizzi fin, but all of the coloring makes sence

ok, cuz my guy doesnt have the elongated fin spines... i started thinking he might be a different species... but all of the coloring telles me he is a A. trifaciatum

Well they might come and they might not. Trifasciata are a pretty nice, 'easy' apisto, they are , like cacatuoides, are one of the 'whitewater' apistos so prefer water with very low kH, but a moderate pH of 6.5 - 7.2. They are relatively comon, but the amount of apisto info online apart form the real bread and butter species is pretty nominal. See if you can get a loan, or buy, the most recent book from Mayland and Bork. I found them pretty normal to breed.
