I have had my Betta for about 2 1/2 months. Last night was the first time I have seen him flare. About what age does a Betta begin flaring? I guess it is when he reaches maturity, right?

Not as far as I know, can you tell their age...mine took time to get comfortable in his tank before he started flaring...maybe he has nothing to flare about yet...try holding a mirror for him to see himself in...mine LOVES that, he gets all excited and starts to shimmy and then flares like crazy...it's sooo funny!!

I have never held a mirror up to the tank yet. But I did notice he only flares when the tank light is on and all of the lights in my room are turned off. So I think he sees his reflection on the wall of the tank.

I have been putting up this mirror with a red frame around it since i got my betta.
Not only does he flare every time i put the mirror against his tank, but now he will flare at anything red he sees, including me when i wear my red hockey hat... Classical conditioning for you i guess.

just thought i'd share that, i find it funny.
