I have a friend who has one of the aquababies (I personally like to refer to them as minature torture chambers.) She thinks they're so cute and are very happy. Its so depressing to see it, I'm trying to find some good information on them to show her how horrible those things are! A couple of the fish in there have already died. I was hoping to get some useful information to prove her wrong and convice her to move those poor fish into a bigger tank. Any ideas?

you know what? For the life of me, I have never seen one of these things. Ever. I've tried looking for them in the supermarkets, where people claim to have purchased them, and have yet to see it. Customers come in all the time asking to buy my little snails (no -my- snails, not your snails!), or for plants, and want to know what fish are in them, wanting to make their own. I don't even know what fish they're using. I hear danios, white clouds, small tetras. I've never, ever, seen one. We don't even carry them, which suprises me cause I figured anything that would be a big sell out be sold at my place.

Okay, I just that aquababies website. Do these people have a brain?

I was particularly amused by their "study." Not to insult the intelligence of 5th and 6th graders, nor that of their teachers, but I'm sure the results are inconclusive and faulty at best. Why don't they give their tanks to a good college bio department and see how they hold up...<G>

I tell people that we could also live in a tiny washroom all our lives. Just get fed every so often, Im sure that we could live. How long? Well, thats a different story. Happy? Again, a different story but possible.

Aquababies are also a ripoff.  They want $27 for a complete setup that holds at MAXIMUM half a gallon of water.  For that amount of money you could put a betta or three white clouds with gravel, plant, and a snail in a two gallon bowl - thats FOUR TIMES the water capacity.  Oh well, there's a sucker born every minute...

i totally agree, if all your fish die, than you can't just restock them. You gotta buy a whole $20-30 thing again. Instead of paying 50 cents for a new guppy. And it cost me about $40 to get a 2 gallon hex aquarium including a small heater and my two frogs. Its much better just to get a 1-3 gallon aqaurium and buy your own fish! (your fish will probably live much longer too if you keep the aqaurium clean)

I have to say that I was one of those suckers..  Was at Target back in January and saw the Aquababies for sale.  Picked up a really pretty betta.  Let him sit in his little rectangular box on my desk at work for about 6 weeks (I did frequently clean the tank as well as change his water.. I also gave him live tubafex worms and left the top off most of the time) but that doesn't change the fact that I fell for the gimmick as well as the crap about how bettas "just love sitting in a small amount of water"... I finally got wise and now he is happily making bubble nests in a 2 gallon Eclipse Explorer on my desk.  His color his brighter and he is so much more lively than he was before.  Since I got him, I've also "rescued" 3 other bettas who each have their own Explorer tank here in my office at home.   :D

What a difference a little knowledge and care makes..

I visited the boycott link, and then the Aquababy homepage.  For $27.00 I would hope they supply more than 1 toothpick.
(see the section about the copycat products:
"WE (aqua-assholes) include a toothpick  - don't be fooled"

What some people will do for a buck...

Did you read the "actual letter" umm, if that is the writtings of a 5th or 6th grader, I would suggest more one on one learning for that child. ahhh well, the child's fish are special, and one fish is'nt as active as the other, and the kid is trying to train them... ahh well.. keep on learning kid.
