You'll probably get enough oxygen with a AC200 but you may not get sufficient filtration. I had an AC 200 on a 29g and I wasn't happy with the filtration it gave me. So, I added an AC300.

Personally, I would shoot for an AC300 for the 33g. Perhaps add an AC mini or AC150 to supplement the 300? Or how about a canister? I've never had a canister before so I can't really give you reviews. But others around here know about canisters.

I just got an AC200 for my 18g that I plan on planting but I heard too much oxygenation in the water or too strong of a flow is bad for plants. So should I adjust the flow to the lowest setting or leave it?

It depends on whether you're adding CO2 or not, method. With CO2 it's more about surface movement offgassing than the circulation in the water. Of course, you don't want your plants being uprooted by a blasting filter, but if it's that strong, your fish won't be happy either. You do want enough circulation in the tank for there to be no "dead" spots.

Yeah, I have a the Hagen CO2 system. And the AC200 causes way less surface agitation than my Bio-Wheel so I think I'll be okay. Plus, it's an 18 tall so I'll need the extra circulation. Thanks Lotus.

I'd do the new Aquaclear 70 (which has replaced the 300 and added their new BioMax media - I have the 110 on my 55gal and I love it), and I wouldn't bother with any bubbles unless you want them for looks. Also, if you buy your filter at a place like PetsMart and you find out that a smaller filter will work better, you can just clean it up and return it....PetsMart for one is pretty good about returns.

I have both one of the new AC 70 (300) and a Penquin 125 in my 33G. I have prefilters on both of the intakes to protect the fry and to reduce the flow. The AC is also set on the lowest flow rate too. Both of the filters create a lot of surface agitation (the Penquin more than the AC - and louder too), and combined, even with the slower flow rates, I 'm getting at least a 10x water turnover rate. And I only clean one filter at a time.

On the far right I have the Penquin and to the left of it is the AC (almost reaches the middle of the tank). This creates a high flow rate for the fish that like it on one end and a slower rate on the other. On the slow side I purposely created a dead spot so my betta doesn't have to constantly swim in a current, though she loves to do it anyway.
