AquaClear AmRid bag as a Bio filter?

Because the AmRid absorbs ammonia, I'm thinking that it could be useful as part of the biological filtration if I were to simply leave it in my AquaClear filter above the sponge.  I figure it would culture the bacteria that convert ammonia.

Any thoughts on this?

Just let your bio-bed develop naturally. AmRid is a bad idea because it starves your bacteria, then when it wears out, you're left with nothing.
