AquaClear media in a Penguin?

I just purchased a penguin mini but I don't like the media hat goes in it (carbon & filter all-in-one)...can I use the sponge from the aquaclear filters inside the Penguin and still get good filtration?

If it fits, and there is no water passby it should be fine.
You could probably use filter floss to do the same thing.

you can cut the blue part off and rubberband filter floss to the remaing plastic piece and viola an inexpensive alternative to expensive filter bags. Plus you don't have to run carbon.

you could take the penguin back to the store and get an AC mini. Then you don't have to worry about penguin media.

A novel idea. Or take the penguin back and get a refund, go online to big als and save some money.

it could work, might be kinda shady quality filtering but heres what i think would work best if u tried (not knowing the filter media section of a penguin) but get the largest sponge that fits in there snuggly and then wrap filter floss along the side of it to fit alll the little nooks and crannies so water does flow all out that area.
