Disclaimer: I'm on vacation so you'll have to excuse the excessive posting.

So my new 125g (african cichlids) is running both an Emporer 400 and an Aquaclear 110. The 400 is maybe a month old and the 110 came with the 125g and is allegedly 6 months old. I've used marineland filters before and they seem to be ok, nice and quiet. After about a day of running the aquaclear it began making a horrible mechanical noise and after some online research I narrowed it down to a worn out impellar and shaft... I think. Anyway the point is which one is actually a better filter? Is the aquaclear worth fixing or should I just buy another emporer. I'm really only familiar with marineland filters so any recos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I've had my 400 since April, and I haven't run into any issues with it. It's extremely powerful and it works great, no bugs. I haven't used an Aquaclear brand filter before, so I'm sorry that I can't give you any insight, but from my experiences with Marineland brand products, I'd stick with the Emperors for you HOB filter needs.
