Aquafuge hang on refugium

Hey guys

I am thinking about ordering one of the aquafuge HOB refugiums from drs f&s http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...ll&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2004&Nty=1
and i was curious if anyone had any experience with those fuges. seems like a really good deal right now and i got payed so...you know

yea, i got that fuge, really like it, I filled it with a fuge mix from www.floridapets.com, really nice stuff.

no lights but a standard flouro probably would do the trick. if i do get it i will probably try to rely solely on residual from my tank lights at first, see how it goes

yea i tried that, and we have the same light setup and it didnt really work, but maybe it will work for you.

so aresgod what do you use for lights? a standard flourescent strip?

no a small 18 watt PC fixture. it was like 30$ and works really well.

well...i got the small aquafuge today at the LFS. payed ~100 for it. i am loving it already and the thing is empty. LS/macro to come soon!

i can try to take some shots this evening...I need to hit up petco or the lfs or somewhere for a light and then figure out what to put in it...im thinking im going to start it out with some chaeto

hey aresgod...can you give me a little more info about what you got at floridapets.com? was it the refugium booster mix or just the macro mix?

My LFS has those on display and I was lookin at them a few months back, there's works awsume. Let us know how you like it once it is up and running. and ya some pictures of the set-up would be cool!

I got the sm booster mix, 10 vibex, 12 obsoletus 2 portions of pods and chaeto and gracilera. It is sweet stuff my fuge is full of pods and baby shrimp. It also really helped to clear up my water.

You can also buy macro on ebay. I bought a baseball size portion of Chaeto for $16 incl. shipping from a hobbyist and it was great stuff, beautiful dark green. I still have it in my fuge and its huge now. In contrast, Floridapets.com will cost you $10.50 for the same amount plus the minimum $20.50 for shipping!

yes but it is the same shipping for chaeto, gracilera, and 24 snails and pods....

the floridapets is looking like a good way to go and frankly i dont trust ebay folks so yah...im probably going to go that way in a few days

Camarao and Ares, quick question.

I'm considering this fuge too, the small variety for my ten gallon. Trouble is I only have exactly 4 and 3/4" clearance at the back of the tank between the glass and wall. The width of the fuge is 4.5 inches.

Could I feasibly squeeze it in? I could probably move the tank out one inch more, but absolutely no more--I'm already at space capacity.

Also, lighting. I have the 96 watt aqualife bulb. Do you think that will supply the fuge enough light from a ten gallon?
