I saw that many people have purchased the 10-gallon starter kit aquarium from Wal-Mart. (It came with an aquarium, a filter, filter cartridges, and a hood with a light.) I can't remember what type of filter this kit came with. I was hoping to buy new filter cartridges today, but I am not sure what kind to buy. Can anyone help me with this? THANKS!!

It's _probably_ a Whisper.

Did it come with more than 1 cartridge? If so, I would bring one with me to compare to the one you're purchasing.

One of the dangers of that type of filter is that when you change out the cartridge, you remove almost your entire bio-filter (the good bacteria that build up on your filter media). Do you have to replace it? If you can, it would be better to just rinse it off in some tank water (after removing the water from the tank, obviously...)

Walmart kits come with Aqua-tech filters which are made my Marineland and clones of their previous Penquin line of filters minus the bio wheel. It should be the same as the Penquin Mini, which was replaced with the Penquin 100B but still uses the same filter cartridge, "rite size- A."

I buy the Aqua-tech filter cartridge version for my Penquin 330 because its almost, if not exactly, the same thing but at a cheaper price.
