I'm a little confused on this subject.   ???

I've read that adding small amounts  of aquarium salt to a tank can prevent some diseases and is good for your fish.

I've read that live plants are also beneficial in a tank.

But, I've also read that salt is not good for most plants.  Is there an optimal salt concentration that protects fish without harming live plants?  If not which is better in your tank, salt or plants?

Also I have read in some places that table salt is a no-no, but others say it is just fine.

Anyone care to share an opinion on this?  Thanks for your help!

i personally didn't add any salt to my tank. all i had was a good substrate, good lighting and added c02. resulted me in pruning at least once a week. i also never added any fertilzer either. so i would say you don't need it. but that's my opinion.  *thumbsupsmiley*

I have never added any salt to my tanks and all my fish are happy and healthy. IME salt in freshwater tanks is not necessary unless you keep fish that need it (livebearers, puffers, gobies,...). I would go with the planted tank rather than add salt.
