Im thinking of getting a some plants for my 10 gal. fish tank.
Congrats on your venture into live plants!

Plants need 4 things: water, nutrients, light, carbon (a specific nutrient). With aquatic plants, you automatically have the water taken care of. ;)

What kind of fish do you keep in the 10 gallon tank?

What type of substrate is in the tank (or what will you change it to if you plan that)?

What type of lighting (watts/type of bulbs)?

Once the basic information is known, plenty here can advise you on what will work for your particular set-up!

how my tank can benefit from there being plants in there.
Fish love plants. Fish that are nervous often calm down and display more normal behaviours, often leading to breeding. The plants offer a hiding place for small fry until they are big enough to live safely with their parents. Healthy plants provide loads of oxygen to the water during the light period.
