Aquatic sand(how much?)

Hi i am new to this forum but not to fishkeeping.However i am planning to change the substrate in my show tank from gravel to sand.Please could any of you tell me how much sand i would need and what colour you suggest would look the best.These are the measurements.
WIDTH 121cm
DEPTH 46cm
HEIGHT 62cm

You can use regular play sand for a substrat and that will save you alot of money!

You can ussaly find a 50lbs bag at somewhere like home depot for around $3 - $5.

Thanks Geko,is there anything i need to do to it before adding it to my tank apart from washing it.Has anybody tried growing plants with play sand?

If you have live plants you probably wont want to use play sand because it lacks the necessary nutrients needed by your plants to grow nice and lush.

Flourite onyx sand will grow your plants very nice and its a sand but be warned the onyx sand will set you back $20 or so...
