are snails supposed to shed?

my mystery snail has what looks to be 2 shells one underneath one on top... the top one seems to be coming apart... is this a problem?

Are you sure it's not new shell growth? It's hard to know what you mean without a picture.

yeah id take a picture but my camera is messed up i gotta find some very small phillips head screw drivers so i can fix it

I have had Mystery(Apple) Snails for some time and never have had that situation. The coming apart is not from new shell growth, new shell growth takes place with the mantle by the opening of the snails shell. Your snails might not be getting enough Calcium Carbonate. They need that to maintain strong shells.
