just attach a bungee cord and you should be all set for some evening entertainment...lol j/k

I haven't noticed mine trying to jump but they do like to surf the bubble stream on side of tank from time to time. Just put a towel or something over openings to prevent a jumper.

yeah mine do that too, they seem to enjoy it. however, i dont htink ill have to worry about them jumping anytime soon cause i gave them a new cave to hide in and they have dissapeared into the nethers of the cave and i havent seen a glimpse of them all day.

edit: i decided to try and find them, i looked in each of the caves i have (picked the rocks and ornaments up off the substrate to look in them from the bottom) and i have only found one...i know they didnt jump out because i searched a 5 foot radius around my tank...and so i have come to hope that they are ridiculously good hiders and/or diggers and have dug themselves deep into my substrate (i hope not)

They're good hiders :)

The more caves you give them, the more you'll see them. Especially in larger tanks, give them a cave on each side of the tank. It makes them feel more comfortable, and that means they'll be out and about in the tank more. The caves should be large enough for the whole group to fit in. They don't have to be premade caves, you can make them using driftwood, large stones, etc. As long as there's no chance of them collapsing, it's fine. Build any caves on the floor of the tank, not on the substrate.

lotus why build caves off the floor of tank and not substrate? Is it ok to build cave on floor but have rock inside and stuff? you just mean the base of cave on flat surface correct?

I dont think clown loaches bury themselves i believe it only to be the kuhli type that do this and not the biota but i may be wrong.

My fish like to hide in rock cave at morning but during day they swim all around and hang around driftwood in the tank.

im gonna take a stab at a reason for that, lotus, correct me if im wrong...

you put them on the floor of the tank so that they wont dig out the substrate out from underneath the base of the cave, causing it to potentially collapse

i have a bunch of snails in my tank, and added the loaches a few days ago, yet still have snails....maybe my loaches are vegetarians? they cleaned out my old tank seemingly over night a while back

im finally starting to see my loaches in the wee hours of the morning, before the lights come on and before the sun rises. otherwise they are hidden away for the entire day. im adding a few more loaches today, in addition to some kribs or rams...some small egg laying fish (as suggested in a previous thread)

Haha crazy civil engineering degree...

It's probably just taking them a while to find the snails in a tank that large.

BTW, I want my 20g back now that you're not using it. ;)

Yeah, you stole my big rock too, btw haha

But yeah, on topic, both the clown loaches and yoyo loaches I used to have were jumpers, so I imagine yours probably might try to jump out of the water occasionally too. It got to the point where I left a book on the hood of the tank because they would jump up and hit the hood hard enough to open it a little and fall out...though after I built the DIY one they couldn't jump out anymore.

I was there Saturday night, but I didn't see your tank, since it was about 3am when I was in there. I'm surprised I didn't wake you up, since I kinda went grocery shopping in the pantry. Post a picture of your tank in the rate my tank forum, I'm sure some other people would like to see it too now that it's filled.

A good place to go for rocks is Hidden Creek, down behind that ministorage at Jeff and Blake Bottom. That's where I got all those other rocks from. Good source of interesting rocks, I just dunked them in a bucket of 10% bleach for 24 hours then rinsed them really well and let them soak.

I probably won't be back by there for a while, but the next time I do I might get that tank, and also my big rock (you can have the small ones if you want) and I'll probably swing by the creek and pick out some new nice rocks. If I get a lot of good ones, I'll drop some off for you
