I have a couple asian ambula plants in my tank and each morning I wake up or throughout the day it gets magically clipped. I have a red clawed crab, iridescent shark, columbian catfish shark, khuli loach and some danios. Who's responsible for clipping the plant all the time. I scoop out the floating clipping and then couple hours later another is clipped? Could it be the snails? Are the fish even responsible?

Mantis, it does sound like a fish issue. I have Ambulia in my tank and haven't experienced a clipping from the snails or any sort of naturally-occuring segmenting of the plant stalks. How high up is the clipping happening? If they are getting clipped low I'd say it was the crab. If higher up and out of the crab's reach i'd say one of the sharks is to blame. Khulii and danios would be the last ones I'd suspect. The only definitive way to find out is of course direct observation.

The clipping happens on the left side where the plant is side by side the filter. It happens midway up the plant in the middle. I'm thinking its the crab because he/she likes to climb up into the filter and I have seen it once on the plants but never as high as the clipping. It's a clean cut clip, nothing rotted, about as clean as my scissors clipping it when i want to control the growing. I don't think the crab is light enough though to get to the middle of the plant, it would lean with its weight.
