Back from the dead!

Pure laziness saved my leather frag today! It's been completely dead looking, even looked like it started to turn hard for the last 3-4 days, but I was being lazy and didn't take it out. Lo and behold I go to take it out today, and all the polyps are entended and it's doing great! What was going on the last few days?

Every month or so leathers will shrink up for a few days, then shed their skin. Blasting it with a turkey baster can help remove the skin, once it's ready to come off.

Is that why is sort of glazes over? Whew... it was a close call that is for sure!

Yah...they get a sort of beigey-grey looking film for a little while which then sloughs off.

blasting with a turkey baster and then siphoning out the skin will help speed up the process. The skin can sometimes irritate other corals as most leathers and softies practice really nasty aleopathy/chemical warfare with other corals. When they are shedding you could also run more carbon to help.

Mine is still small, but I'll keep that in mind for next time. I'm glad I have it where it is now also, because it isn't near any of my other corals.
