ok to make the most of the light whats the best background for a fish tank..

also what background have you got.

plain black. classic. clean. easy. (used posterboard, wasn't going to shell out $2.50 a foot for black plastic)

heh...on my old ten gallon, I had a peice of cardboard, covered in duct tape...it actually looked alright.

I use Blackboard paint as it is cheap and dries matt.

for my 55gallon i made a rock wall in the back w/styrofoam, cement and sand

it was time consuming but not hard to do at all

i think it looks nice...its natural looking and i think fish feel more comfortable w/natural or neutral colors

but it if i wouldnt have done that i would have painted it black...that looks nice too

I have been thinking of getting a background for my tank and stumbled upon this thread. So a black background looks pretty good huh. I might just give it a try.

You could use foil but that might be too bright

I just stole my kids black construction papaer adn taped it together and put it on the back of my 29 gal. tank. Looks pretty good . . . much better than nothing at all.

you can also use a black garbage bag and cut it to the tanks size instead of using paper or cardboard because it looks nasty when it gets wet and sometimes gets water stains which i dont like.

I use wrapping paper, plain colors or you can get really festive! Easier for larger tanks like 55 gallon, so you don't have to tape pieces of paper together.

i just payed 10 dollars and got hagen midnight or some thing black/dark blue color background for all my tanks it looks fine, it looks clean, and it was easy

i found a pretty greenish blue water pattern on the internet, printed it out and stuck it on the back of my 5 gallon!
