Bamboo as tank decoration

A friend gave me a stick of bamboo (dead) and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it. It's about 5 feet long and roughly 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Would it be safe to cut into sections and add as a hiding spot in the tank? How well will it hold up being submerged?

Despite the fact that live bamboo is sold in pet stores, bamboo rots over time while submerged. I would think that dead bamboo would rot as well. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I would purchase long term aquatic plants that are easy to care for, such as hygrophila and java fern.

bamboo is tough when alive and dried, but u have to remember that bamboo is a grass. it's not as tough as wood and will rot away rather quick in comparison.
