Okay, I am considering something....

I want more fish, more tanks, different environments, etc.

However, I don't have enough space in my apartment to do so.  I am considering the idea of placing tanks in my basement.  A mini-aquarium of sorts.   There would be some advantages to doing this. I could have my plumber plumb a coldwater sink with a hose spigot, could vacuum/siphon off water changes right into the sink. And re-fill with the hose.

The only issues of concern I can think of are the following:

1) Lighting..., no natural light. However, many people have aquariums in rooms with no windows right? And each tank will have a hood....so is this really a problem?

2) Basement atmosphere. This is not a finished basement, so it does have that slightly musty/damp, basement feel.  Is this a concern?

3) Uh, I guess there is always the saying "out of site - out of mind" but I think at a minimum I could make it down to the basement for feeding once a day.  And who knows, maybe I'd place a reading chair.

Now, I don't expect to do this for a good year or so..., just want to know if it's even worth thinking about?

I am also planning to add at least a 220 gallon tank to the basement.

For the humidity, and musty smell,I have a dehumidifyer. They are not too expensive, but to enjoy yourself more, maybe one should be purchased. It also saves you from smelling the musty smell, and molds growing on boxes and less on everything.

A reading area, maybe even a small TV and /or radio would also be nice. I say do it.

You can always try to construct a fan with vents/ducts to the outside if you don't like that damp musty area.
