Beach sand

I'm thinking of not using gravel, but instead using sand. is it okay to get sand from the beach near my house and rinse it?

I do know from reading here that if you want to use beach sand that you have to boil it good to kill any bacteria and parasites that might be in the sand.

Dont use sand unless you have to. Cleaning it isn't the easiest...

I think that is true if it were ocean beach sand.. but if it is a freshwater lake.. I don't think it does.. but I could be wrong.. wouldn't be the first time*BOUNCINGS
