Fibrechunk,
That Convict took a serious beating. That was a good idea isolating him. He should be fine, as his fins will slowly grow back.
I just puchased a female RD as a tankmate to my male, and her fins have been plucked just like your Convict. My large tank is now cycing and I will soon separate them.

ouch. but it happens.

I would treat with mela-fix. Always had great results with it and torn fins. So long as it doesn't seem that he's having any difficulty breathing and is eathing well, then it should make a full recovory.

Red Devil is the attacker. All was fine in the 150 gal. but when it broke and I had to put them into 29 gal, 20 gal, 55 gal. until I got my new tank. The red devils did not like the lack of space. I divided the fish the best I could and had to wait it out. Now I have my big tank back and running but the convict I left in my 29 gal. I can't get him to eat yet so I don't know for sure if he will make it. Being by himself should help I hope.

red devils can get really aggressive, how much bigger was he then the convict? hopefully this guy will recover because he looked like a great fish before he was attacked.

Melafix and Pimafix should help him. Some coat with aloe would not hurt either.
My jack dempsey got huge scratch and some skin was hanging loose on his head plus he almost banged his brains out. In a week he is as a new and even fatter. He did not loose his appetite though. Melafix and pimafix will mess up your tank's walls and I had even outbreak of nematodes at the end.
