i have noticed that one of my guppies has ick. hes the only one that has it, and his behavior isnt changed. im hoping to catch this before it goes too far. i turned the heat up to about 83, is this hot enough? also, if im putting aquarium salt in, how much should go in for a 10g? and should i pre mix it with some new water? or just add it to the tank? will more frequent water changes help? thanks every one in advance for answering these questions!

I'd do some searching in this forum as people have shared their remedies.

If you're not using medications, only salt and heat you should turn it up to 86 ish.

Yes you should mix salt with water to dissolve it before adding it to the tank.

More frequent water changes will help keep ich away from your tank as it helps with your water quality, but it wont help get rid of the ich once it is affecting your fish.

I recently had a go with ich, in my sisters tank. We turned the temp to 86-87 and added 2.75 tsp (teaspoon) aquarium salt per gallon (Got this info from loaches.com) we were treating clown loaches, so it seemed appropriate. We did daily 20% WC's and after about 9 days we started getting results. I would (and have been told to) keep the temp/salt at those levels for up to 1 week after the ich clears (some people say 4 days, some say 2 weeks, thats your call). I don't know if your fish can handle these temps and/or salt contents, but the loach made it through with little issues (we did loose 1 before the salt bath treatment was started though) I hope this helps, I am by no means an expert (There are a few on this site) But this treatment did work for me

I would turn it up to 85-87 and leave it there for at least 5 days after you've seen the last white spot. Of course make sure you raise it slowly. When I've treated...I've added 1 tsp per gallon of salt, premixed w/ water.
