betta 4 my mom

my mom had a betta in a 1/2 gal vase. I bought her a 2.5 gal tank sohe would have some room. She doesnt understand that a betta can SURVIVE in a small bowl but not thrive. now I think the little guy needs a filter but i think maybe a 25% water change once a week will be ok with no filter. ANY suggestions????? or advice??/

Kudos for getting the Betta a bigger home and If it is only the betta alone in the tank no filter will be needed, 2.5 gallons i'd say you are right with 25% water change for week, Tell your mother not to put her tank in a hot room! I went away for 2 days and came back to a cooked betta Probaly not the best tips you will get from other people on this site but hope it helps a bit *thumbsups

I have a betta in a 2.5g tank with a Red Sea deco nano filter. I've also got a heater on it (disconnected due to the heat in the room at the moment).

PWC's are fine, but I bet the filter will be better for the fish in the long run.

I'd do a weekly 50% water change on an unfiltered tank, and probably a 100% change every few weeks.

in a 2.5 gallon unfilter, uncycled, i would recommend 100% water change every week. If not every 3 days.
