Betta and guppies?

I have a 20 gal. tank with 3 guppies (2 male, 1 female) and I was wondering if I could put a Betta in with them? I know that Bettas are known to hurt male guppies but is this always the case or does it happen only to some people?

If I could absolutly NOT keep the betta in with the guppies could I keep the betta in a net inside my tank?

It just depends on the betta you could try and just watch them for a while. I had a betta that didn't bother guppies.

I wouldn't try the net it'd get stressed out and flare at the guppies as they passed.
