i hear from other betta owner's that bettas are very lazy, but from today my betta has been swiming all over the place constantly flaired, and ocasionally looking to the side and flairing with gills and everything. Is he mad or happy? or should i not even worry about it

from the sounds of it, you are taking good care of your betta- he just sounds healthy and happy. Lethargic bettas are typically in bad health or substandard conditions. And just so you know- you can edit your posts to add things rather than posting again.

Most bettas are letargic for a few reasons:

1. Lack of heat.
2. Unhealthy/Sick
3. Weak swimming muscles

Some bettas are raised in such small quarters that they never develop sufficient muscle to really move around. Thats why bettas seem to 'perk up' over time, once they move from a small container to a larger tank.

Sounds like Mr. Betta is just happy, healthy and glad to see you! (aka - Feed me please!)
