betta housing questions...

high there y'all...long time no post...
for those that remember me...HELLO... :)
[i've been lurking on the side...]

no time to join in as our one year old...
is a FULL TIME JOB ... :):)

thing is...got a spare 3 gallon [imperial] tank...
and i want to house a betta in it...
got a heater...no got filtration...is that ok ... ???

i'm happy to do big water changes...
[sheeesh...100% is only 3 galls...no worries...:):):)]...

2nd question...can i keep a male and a female together...
i see that the sticky says i can't...
guy in the lfs says i can...is he stooopid...
[can't be for the money...less than one gb pound...]...

please let me know your thoughts...
as i would like to get it sorted tomorrow...

No, it doesn't need to be filtered, and NO, you can't put male and female together. The male (usually, sometimes the female) will terrorize the female, and usually kill her off.

good news on the filter...thought as much... :)

bad news on the twosome...thought as much... :(

why would the dude in the lfs tell me different...
he must be a muppett...ah well...male betta only it is...
could i pop anything else in with him for company...???...

not keen on snails or frogs...
any fish that can handle no filter...and large water-changes...

Pretty much, LFS guys don't necessarily know a whole lot and seem to make up answers rather than saying they don't know.

Well, frogs would go well but you aren't too keen on them. They conveniently don't need filtration since they breathe air... too bad they don't float your boat. How about shrimp? I don't know if shrimp need filtration though... they might. I don't think you can get much more in the way of fish in there, since it isn't filtered.

shrimp...innertesting...not sure tho...not my thing either...

mayhap i'll check out the frogs at the lfs... :)
