Betta ID needed

The LFS had it labeled as a blue spot, but I've never heard of it, nor have I ever seen one. Any Ideas??

There is a picture of Betta coccina on that web site i posted earlier that looks just like your betta.

Both of the ones offered have way more color. this guy is kinda plain. I was thinking it looked more like http://www.ibc-smp.org/species/bellica.html scroll down for decent pics.

any way, looks like Betta dimidiata to me.

He has the coloration of the Bellica but the eely body of the coccina. Maybe he is mixed [just kidding].

That is the first time I have ever seen a betta like that. Interesting species they have out there.

i would say 'stressed' betta coccina ...that's why he doesn't seem as colorful. Coccina are mouthbrooders too...that could be interesting to try to breed.

I think the coccinas all look the same and I think Pure's looks like a coccina...of course I am not an expert.

I think prettypleco is right, betta coccina..They all look like the same species, but just a different color. Nice one too, Pure!

I think you guys are right. If so WOW stress kills the color. This lil guy vertually has no red at all. Well he could by now I havn't seen him in 4 days. lol

The clincher for me is some of the pics of the coccina the fish has a blue spot on it. As I said it was sold as a blue spot, and even tho you can't see his very well it is there.

PH might be a factor in the color thing too. GAA! He will be getting a tannin bath ASAP. Right now he is in my rock water 7.8.

That's why i thought it was a coccina because you said it was sold as a blue spot. Plus it looks like one except for the colour.
