wow, can betta jump!!
my female bettas used to mysterously disappear from from the refugium i put on the tank side to be found inside the tank either try to mate with the male betta or to fight with the other female betta.  i thought my refugium was cracked, or that the betta had be beam out or swimming through a wormhole.  the refugium wall is a good 3 inches clear from the water surface, naturally i thought jumping out was not possible.  but the fish keep appearing in the tank so i decide to sit there and watch what had happened.
man, can she jump.  she cleared the top with a perfect projectile motion and landed in the tank.
betta keepers out there, i am just wondering how high can your fish go.... *twirlysmiley*

I learned how high bettas can jump the hard way! Once when I was doing a water change I put my betta into a shallow container because he hated the gravel vaccum. When I turned around to check on him, he wasn't in the container! I looked down, and he was flopping on the floor , which was about 4 feet from the top of the counter where his container was. I didn't know what to do, so I scooped him up with my hands, which probably wasn't all that good for him. He had a rip in his fin, but was okay for another year until he died of a tumer. The weird part was, he jumped over the top of the container which was about 4 inches from the water! *twirlysmiley*

I dont know the exact height they can reach but I had one jump out of his tank when the water level was somewhat low, it was atleast three inches.  Even more impressive was the fact that he was out of the tank for over an hour.  I put him back in and he seemed fine, he lived two years after that.
