Betta keeps getting sick!

AGH! My betta keeps getting sick. He's in a 5-gallon tank with great water quality, and a power filter and heater... he has had fungus 3 times now in about a month. Plus, he is still fighting hexamita... yesterday was the last treatment for hexamita, but there is still a small hole. My dillema: Should I do a water change and do a second treatment of hex-a-mit, or put the filter back in for a day and treat the 3rd case of fungus? He has two little strands of white fungus on his back! I am also worried that he will get dropsy from no carbon in the filter. HELP!!!!*SICK* *SICK* *SICK*

I would definitely do a water change of at least 30 percent. This seems to help when my betta has body fungus.

lol The fungus turned out to be a tiny piece of a dead floating plant!! His hexamita is gone, but I'm giving him Maracyn Two cuz he looked a little fat. He hasn't gotten fatter in 3 days so I think he's just gained some weight. lol He's gonna be fine!
