Betta not blowing nest

I've set up a 10 gal tank with ~ 6 inch water.
placed a male outside, a female inside a jar in the tank. temp is @ 80F. Got a sponge filter; some floating plants.
the male has been flaring at the girl for 2 days already, but he doesn't seem to be building a nest at all.

any idea what's going on?

How is she reacting? Is she scared or avoiding him? If she is, don't release her yet.

Its not critical for the male to build a nest before the female is released, just watch for her 'ready' signs (vert striping/following male/interest) then let her go.

He will likely build a nest after she is 'available'.

Shall I leave the light on throught out the night? Or shall I leave it off?

Only leave the light on all night once there are eggs in the nest, and keep it on till the fry are free-swimming and you removed daddy.
